The „Taut“ building on the “Engelbecken” has been constructed as a South/West oriented corner building and is grouped around two closed yards. Built between 1927 and 1932, the complex is a prime example for the avantgarde architecture of the 1930ties. The six-story building has been built in armored concrete with natural stone façade and large windows. During word war II the complex has been heavily damaged and thus had to be reconstructed in the following years. The originally dark façade has been replaced by a white shell chalk tiles. After the reunification in 1990 the building has been used by the workers union ver.di. In 1992 the building has been declared a historic monument.

The famous architect Paul Ingenbleek focused on the preservation of the avant-garde design and its’ various typical elements.
